Before you begin, your supervisor has requested that you work with a colleague to research and prepare notes about the client’s situation, needs, as well as information about the community in which the work-release program will take place. A case staffing is a presentation in which problems are identified and defined, solutions are explored, and service recommendations are formulated ensuring the best interest of the client and the community. Review the following scenario: While under the influence of drugs (cocaine) Felix Abraham broke into the home of Sydney Green. This occurred in 1997. He had been stalking Green for months, after she refused his multiple requests to date him. He spiked her beverage with drugs, returned it to the refrigerator, and hide. Upon her return home she consumed the beverage and was incapacitated. Felix took advantage of that moment to bind her hands and feet and sexually assault her. He then killed her. He was quickly identified and arrested. Because of the violent nature of his crime, the trial was a local sensation. Everyone in the area became aware of the details of the crime and his trial, conviction, and sentencing. The trial lasted only 1 week and he was found guilty of first-degree murder, after only 6 hours of deliberation. The judge later sentenced him to 25 years to life with the possibility of parole. After serving 25 years, Felix is being released from prison into a work release program. He was a model prisoner, after a brief, rocky start adjusting to prison. He took classes, participated in rehabilitation programs, and engaged in therapy. However, the local community is still haunted by the memories of the violence he committed 25 years ago. Those current residents who lived in the community at the time of the crime are not comfortable with him being in the community again, even as part of a supervised work release program.
